Tony Albuquerque

Teaches: IMC, CFA®, FRM

Background

Tony is an electronics graduate who also holds a MBA from London Business School. Tony spent his early career working in the equity markets with ING Barings, Societe Generale and MSCI Barra.  He has been working as a financial trainer since 1999.

Interesting fact

  • Tony has a keen passion for classical music

His teaching style

Tony likes to make difficult concepts easier to understand for delegates.

Nick Bartlett

Teaches: IMC, SII Diploma, CFA® , SIIM Wealth Management Programme

Background

Nick serves as product head of the IMC. He graduated at Leeds University and has taken a host of accountancy and financial services exams. Nick worked at Schroders for seven years, mainly in the client relationship and sales front, after which he resided in France for a year. He came back to the UK in 2003 and joined BPP Professional Education.

Interesting fact

  • Nick has met Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet.

His teaching style

Nick tries to get his delegates to think and apply the theory learnt. He also likes to build questions into his class sessions so that delegates have a sense of progress.

Scott Boath

Teaches: IAQ™, IMC, SII Diploma, SIIM Wealth Management Programme

Background

Scott graduated with honours in Accountancy from the University of Dundee. He began his career with Coopers & Lybrand in Glasgow where he worked on a wide variety of projects in the audit and corporate finance departments, and presented both technical and soft skills courses as part of the internal graduate induction programme. Subsequently he moved to Ernst & Young in the Middle East, before joining BPP Professional Education.

Interesting fact

  • Scott lived in Bahrain for two years, soaking up the expat lifestyle, before coming back home to work with BPP Professional Education.

His teaching style

Scott enjoys getting delegates to participate and ask questions – sometimes resorting to controversial comments to simply get a response and stimulate debate.

Andrew Doughty

Teaches: IAQ™, SII Certificates, SII Diploma in Investment Compliance

Background

Andrew graduated with a honours in Economics and French and holds the Licence es Sciences Economiques. He is also a qualified Chartered Accountant. Andrew began his career at KPMG where he developed and presented both technical and soft skills internal courses from graduate induction to partner audit tender proposal training. He then joined Nationwide Building Society as a Finance Training Manager before joining BPP Professional Education.

Interesting fact

  • Andrew would probably be a primary school teacher if he was not teaching at BPP Professional Education.

His teaching style

He ensures his classes are relevant to real life scenarios through practical examples and group participation.

Paul Gainford

Teaches: IAQ™, IMC, SII Certificates

Background

Paul serves as product head of the SII Certificates programme. He graduated in Mathematics and Management Sciences and holds a MA in Training Management as well as a Postgraduate certificate in education. Having worked as a Mathematics school teacher, naval officer and training manager at Merrill Lynch to name a few, Paul brings a variety of skills to BPP Professional Education.

Interesting fact

  • Paul has met the Pope (previous incumbent), as well as Princes Phillip, Charles and Andrew.

His teaching style

Paul's teaching style is relaxed, friendly and approachable and he is always willing to help on areas that students find most difficult.

Paul Howman

Teaches: IAQ, IMC, SII Certificates, SII Diploma

Background

Paul was educated at Thetford Grammar School in Norfolk and started his career in Legal & Compliance specialising in PIA & IMRO regulation at Virgin Direct Personal Financial Services & Pearl Assurance. He later went on to become a Compliance Officer & Money Laundering Reporting Officer at BNP Paribas Securities Services with responsibility for FSA & international regulation and compliance training. He is now the Resources Director at BPP and specialises in compliance & regulation exam training and tailored non-exam training.

Interesting facts

  • Paul once cooked lunch for Gary Rhodes.
  • Paul was invited to a private party at Richard Branson’s house

His teaching style

Paul likes to keep his classes friendly, approachable and interesting.

Stuart Jackaman

Teaches: IMC, SII Certificates, CFA®

Background

Stuart graduated in Mathematics from Oxford University. He has 10 years experience of working in the City. Stuart joined Commercial Union as a trainee actuary in 1996 and later moved into the investment banking industry, where he joined a specialist technology sector institutional investment advisor. This later became a wholly owned subsidiary of Close Brothers Group. Stuart has experience in both quantitative and qualitative techniques of investment valuation and asset allocation in equity funds, fixed income funds and hedge funds.

Interesting fact

  • Stuart can be spotted performing in South London’s Jazz venues.

His teaching style

Stuart likes to make things less complicated than they initially seem, without stripping out valuable information.

Jeremy Lord (Dr)

Teaches: CFA®

Background

Jeremy trained to be a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen but left the profession for a role in Commerce and Industry. He was the managing director of the Reef Industrial Group in South Africa, which became part of Cape Plc. Jeremy’s first involvement in the financial services industry was as a partner in the Channel Trust group on Guernsey. Returning to South Africa in 1991, he established the Natal Professional Training Group which specialised in preparing candidates for business and finance qualifications. Along the way, Jeremy 'tooled up' by earning an MBA and a Phd in finance, and by completing the FCMA and CFA Programs.

Interesting facts

  • Jeremy used to own two chocolate factories
  • Many years ago he (briefly) held a world water-skiing record.

His teaching style

Jeremy likes to take an energetic and enthusiastic approach to his classes.

Dean Marriot

Teaches: IAQ, SII Certificates

Background

Dean graduated with an honours in European Finance and Accounting and also holds the Diplom Betriebswirt, ACII and ASFA. Dean has over 10 years experience of working in the City, specialising in personal financial planning and derivative structured product sales and development.

  • Dean is a professionally trained actor

Dean likes to keep his classes open, friendly and concise, enabling delegates to feel at ease, therefore stimulating participation.

Stephen Picksley

Teaches: IAQ™, IMC, SII Certificates

Background

Stephen graduated in Banking and Finance from Loughborough University. He also holds the Advanced FPC and the SII Diploma. As a graduate, Stephen joined NatWest Bank and studied for his Institute of Bankers exams. It is here that he developed an interest in wealth management and went on to join Nat-West’s Private Bank, Coutts, specialising in financial advice for high net worth individuals. Stephen initially joined BPP Professional Education teaching financial advice courses such as Certificate in Mortgage Advice Qualification (CeMAP) and Financial Planning Certificate (FPC) but now teaches financial services courses.

Interesting fact

  • Stephen gained prizes from the Institute of Bankers and the Securities Institute as the highest scoring candidate in the exams he undertook with them.

His teaching style

Stephen trains in a very interactive manner by using innovative methods to ensure retention of the subject matter. As a consequence his classes are always extremely participative.

Jason Roberts

Teaches: SII Certificates

Background

Jason spent three years at Coopers and Lybrand, where he was involved in a number of different financial services audits, ranging from Abbey National to UBS. Post Coopers he dipped into the world of internet advertising, working for Excite the internet search engine for six months before returning to the City as a trainee equity salesman at SG Securities. After cutting his teeth at SG, he moved on to HSBC where he was responsible for selling equities to a range of hedge fund clients before moving on to trade equity, equity derivative and commodity products at the firms proprietary trading desk. He left HSBC in Dec 2006 and after a brief period overseas returned to work as a trainer at BPP Professional Education.

  • Jason trained with BPP Professional Education when he first started his career in the City, ten years ago!

His teaching style

Jason likes to keep his classes open, inclusive and relaxed combined with examples from the real world.

Laurence Seeff

Teaches: IAQ™, SII Certificates

Background

Laurence serves as product head of IAQ™. He graduated in statistics from Cardiff University and spent his early career as an oil statistician and part time statistics lecturer in Paris. Laurence was the first European employee to join the fledgling Bloomberg Financial Markets. Over an almost 20 year period he held a variety of roles including working on trading systems, developing the company’s training offerings and managing various projects.

Interesting facts

  • Laurence was appointed as a magistrate in Inner London in 2001 and became a Presiding Justice in 2006. So watch out if you are thinking of breaching FSMA 2000!
  • Laurence is a member of the National Association of Toastmasters and can sometimes be found in his red tails presiding over weddings and other functions.

His teaching style

Laurence likes to keep his classes entertaining and energetic. He sometimes resorts to magic to help the class along!

Kevin Tilley

Teaches: IMC, SII Certificates, CFA®

Background

Kevin graduated with honours in Chemistry from Southampton University. Deciding that getting his hands dirty mixing smelly pots of chemicals was not for him, he joined Shell on their Sales & Marketing graduate trainee programme. He later joined JP Morgan Asset Management as a Performance Analyst.  This led to a move into the front office, joining a team managing fixed income & equity funds and stand-alone currency hedge funds. During this period he gained his first exposure to BPP Professional Education whilst studying towards both the IMC qualification and CFA Program.

Interesting fact

  • Kevin is a keen runner who has completed six London marathons. The fastest in 2 hours and 35 minutes, placing him in the Top 100!

His teaching style

Kevin likes to relate abstract theory to the real world and topical events in the markets. He also appreciates lots of audience participation - heckling permitted as long as its good-natured and he gets a chance to respond.

Natalia Toujakov

Teaches: IAQ™, IMC, SII Certificates

Background

Natalia graduated with honours in Languages from University of Vladivostok and in Finance from Cass Business School. Her previous professional experience includes teaching in a music school, working for a family business, personal development training and working in corporate finance departments of major City institutions.

Interesting fact

  • Natalia studied classical piano and played on a record of one of the most popular Russian pop bands.

Her teaching style

Natalia likes to engage the audience by introducing points for reflection and encouraging student participation.

Louise Undrill

Teaches: IMC, SII Certificates, CFA ®

Background

Louise graduated in Physics from Oxford University and went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young. She later moved into professional training, focusing on accountancy qualifications and thereafter financial services training. During her time at BPP Professional Education she has been involved in overseas development and the innovation of educational products, in particular e-learning and course design.

Interesting facts

  • Louise used to live on the road that they set “The Good Life” on.
  • Louise also regularly appeared in a gardening show on BBC Scotland at the tender age of 11.

Her teaching style

Louise teaches in a logical manner and tries to make passing potentially intimidating exams appear something that everyone can achieve.

Nevin Weakley

Teaches: IAQ™, SII Certificates, SII Diploma

Background

Nevin graduated in Economics at Trinity College, Dublin and also holds an MBA from Strathclyde Business School. He has over twenty years of retail financial services experience in the UK, Guernsey and Luxembourg specialising in private client management.

Interesting fact

  • Nevin still has his well distinguished Zimbabwean accent although he has lived in the UK for over 30 years.

His teaching style

Nevin likes to take a structured approach to his classes to ensure material is learnt and remembered.

Vicky Woods

Teaches: SII Diploma, CFQ, CFA

Background

Vicky graduated with honours in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and is also a qualified Chartered Accountant. Prior to becoming a tutor, Vicky worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and Credit Suisse in corporate finance, specialising in UK mergers and acquisitions and valuations.

Interesting fact

  • Vicky has been a tutor at BPP Professional Education for ten years.

His teaching style

Vicky's classes tend to be interactive as she tries to encourage group discussion and participation.
